Description
The HV1600 Whole House Fan easily mounts in the attic on 16 or 24 inch on center joists and is operated by a Remote Control included with your purchase. The fan can be installed vertically or horizontally. This 1527 CFM* fan quickly circulates air and cools your home whenever the outdoor air is cooler than the indoor air. The HV1600 Whole House Fan operates at two speeds to exhaust hot air, indoor air pollutants, allergens, moisture, and odors out through attic vents or gables while pulling cool, fresh air into the home through the open windows. The air exchange naturally cools your home and can improve the indoor air quality.
Like all Tamarack HV Series Whole House Fans, the HV1600 Whole House Fan features a unique self-sealing door design. The unit includes R38 or R50 insulated doors that open automatically when the fan is operating and seal shut automatically when the fan is off. The insulated door design prevents cool air from escaping your living area to the attic. The insulated doors also prevent heat loss through the attic during the cooler months.
Installing an HV1600 Whole House Fan reduces energy consumption and saves money. Tamarack’s Whole House Fans use 10% of the energy of a central air conditioning system thus cooling your home while reducing your energy bill.
As a result of the high quality of this product and ease of installation, the HV1600 has been featured twice on the popular home improvement show “Ask This Old House”. A clip of the episode can be viewed here.

This fan is compact & cools our bedrooms in no time. We have 1450 sqft main floor & will open 3 bedroom windows in the evening. It works very well. We are happy with this fan. It’s not silent, but if you had one of these in the late ’70’s or early ’80’s, you will LOVE how quiet it is in comparison. The vent cover (included) is very nice. There’s no ugly louvers in your hallway anymore. We use this fan more than the AC right now as days are warm, but nights are cool. My husband installed it himself, & said it went in easily.

This fan was purchased to replace an older whole-house fan we installed probably over fifteen years ago. The older unit was a large single fan type. It was quite loud (annoyingly so) but very useful during the summer months.
The new fan is much, much quieter. Power seems similar to the old unit but it’s hard to quantify. None the less my wife and I like the new fan more than the older unit.
We ordered the fan and it arrived on the date expected. We are very satisfied customers and have had no negative experiences with this company to date.

I purchased my second HV 1600 (9/9/21). My first one was purchased around 20 years ago. We have used the original fan every summer since its original purchase and it has worked unfailingly. One of the bearings in the fan gave out this year. I don’t think it owes us anything!

I have owned an HV1000/HV1600 whole house fan since the mid-90s. I installed it myself. It has never failed me. I have chosen to purchase a replacement as it is only beginning to exhibit some signs of all the service it has flawlessly provided. The efficiency of these units is self-evident. I have avoided the cost of buying air conditioning for all these years. A great product!

I am located in Southern California and this fan has reduced our energy use by 30-40%….Installation was easy once I felt brave enough to cut the drywall to make the hole in the ceiling. We run the A/C at night but the cost is minimal because the house and attic are pre-cooled with outside evening air usually in the 68-75 range. Our house is 3500 sq ft and this 1600 cfm unit moves plenty of air. Now that I have this whole house fan it makes me wonder how the CA building code allowed a relatively new home to be built so inefficiently. I could probably add solar and/or better attic insulation but but there is no way that anything could could challenge the dollar for dollar value of this fan.
